Are Facial Implants Right for You?

The best candidates for facial implants should be in good general health physically and mentally, and should have realistic expectations about their results. Facial implants can enhance the midface by augmenting the cheekbones, or strengthen a weak chin to accentuate your jawline.

Facial implants can:

  • Give the cheeks or chin more prominence
  • Create harmony among facial features
  • Work together to bring out the best in your face
  • Allow for a more conservative rhinoplasty to be performed
  • Decrease the appearance of jowls or fatty deposits under the neck
  • Help rejuvenate and improve your self-image

Facial Implant Costs

The costs associated with your facial implants will vary depending on which type of surgical approach Dr. Kay takes and whether the implants are combined with additional procedures at the same time. The total charges for your cheek or chin implants will include of the cost of the implants themselves, Dr. Kay’s surgical fee, the use of the surgical facility, and any anesthesiologist fees. Dr. Kay and his staff can give you more details on cosmetic surgery financing options that can help make your facial implants even more affordable.

What to Expect

Facial structure has a dramatic impact on your overall appearance. A receding chin can make your nose look too large by comparison, while adding volume to the cheekbones can help minimize the appearance of jowling along the jawline. Sometimes, women or men who initially think they would benefit from rhinoplasty find that augmenting the chin or cheeks instead is the ideal solution to improve their facial contours.

During your consultation, Dr. Kay will talk with you about your goals for facial implants, as well as address any concerns you may have. He will also go over the specifics of your surgery in greater detail so you’re prepared for what to expect.

Cheek and chin implants may be combined, but are often performed as separate procedures as well. There are three different options for enhancing facial structure:

  • Facial Implants: Soft, solid silicone implants can be positioned over the chin or cheekbones to add dimension. Dr. Kay takes care to hide incisions in the natural creases of the face for chin implants, while cheek implants are usually placed through an incision on the inside of the mouth for a scar-free procedure.
  • Lipostructure: Fatty deposits are collected from elsewhere on the body, usually the abdomen, flanks or thighs, via liposuction, and then the viable fat cells are injected over the cheekbones, to improve definition.
  • Injectable Fillers: Dr. Kay may also use dermal fillers to smooth and sculpt the cheek and chin for more pronounced contours with almost immediate results and minimal downtime.

Dr. Kay will explain more about the differences between these options during your consultation, and help you decide which is best for you.

Your Recovery & Results

You should see a difference in your facial contours right away after surgery, although there may be some swelling at first, particularly if implants were used. In the case of fat grafting, you may notice soreness at the site where liposuction was performed. The typical recovery after facial implants is only a few days.

After your surgery, your facial contours should look more refined, and your features should better complement one another. You may also look younger and more refreshed, as implants can help improve the look of slightly drooping skin through the jaw and cheeks, and you should also feel happier and more confident with your facial appearance after surgery.
