The best candidates for breast reduction are in good physical and mental health and have realistic expectations about their results. Women with ongoing back, neck or shoulder pains can benefit significantly from a breast reduction, as well as women who are interested in participating in activities that large breasts may prevent them from fully enjoying. Additionally, women who are simply interested in smaller breasts for a more balanced figure may be good candidates for a breast reduction.

The costs associated with a breast reduction will vary depending on the type of surgical approach Dr. Kay takes and whether additional procedures are performed at the same time. The total charges of a breast reduction are inclusive of Dr. Kay’s surgical fee, the use of the surgical facility and anesthesiologist fees. Many health insurers cover some or all of the costs of a breast reduction when the surgery is required to address ongoing related health issues. Dr. Kay and his staff are also happy to discuss cosmetic surgery financing options that can help make your breast reduction as affordable as possible.
Women with large breasts can experience a variety of day-to-day emotional and physical hardships as a result of their generous cup size. Breast reduction surgery can help resolve some or all of these issues by reducing breast volume as needed, providing you with a newly proportioned figure.
During your consultation, Dr. Kay will discuss your goals for breast reduction with you as well as any concerns you may have. He will also explain in detail the specifics of the surgery and recovery so that you’re fully informed about what to expect. Depending on the fat content of your breasts as determined by a mammogram, Dr. Kay may suggest a breast reduction via liposuction.
During the surgery itself, Dr. Kay will make a discreet incision around the areola, possibly with other incisions extending down to the crease under the breast. During your consultation, he will explain where you can expect your incision(s) to be placed, which usually depends on how much tissue is being removed. Through these incisions, Dr. Kay can remove breast tissue as needed before finally reshaping the remaining tissue into natural contours and excising excess skin. He will then lift the breast to a higher position, repositioning and resizing the nipple and the areola if needed.
You should notice an immediate difference in how your breasts look and feel, but the results will initially be obscured by swelling. Dr. Kay may ask you to wear a special surgical bra for 24 hours a day following your procedure. It’s normal to feel some amount of soreness for the first days or weeks, but this will fade gradually and you should be able to ease back into your normal schedule over the following weeks and months.
After your breast reduction surgery, your breasts will be smaller, firmer and look more appropriately sized to your body. You may finally be able to participate in activities that you found difficult before due to your former breast size. Many women are able to resolve pain and posture problems following their breast reduction, fit into a wider range of clothes and feel more confident about their bodies overall.
