The appearance of “man boobs” can also worsen with weight gain. Male breast reduction restores masculine lines to the chest and torso, revealing enhanced muscle tone and helping men feel more confident about their bodies.

Male Breast Reduction Costs

The costs associated with male breast reduction depend on the level of correction needed and the type of surgical approach Dr. Kay recommends. Your total costs will include Dr. Kay’s fee, the cost of the surgical facility, and anesthesiologist fees. Although insurance providers typically consider gynecomastia treatment to be cosmetic, some healthcare plans do offer coverage for the procedure if considered medically necessary. Dr. Kay and his staff will go over all the available options for cosmetic surgery financing that can help make treatment for your gynecomastia as affordable as possible.

What to Expect

The development of male breasts is more common than many men realize. Although physically harmless, the appearance of having breasts as a man can have a devastating psychological impact on those affected, particularly when the condition occurs during puberty.

Gynecomastia can be categorized in different ways:

  • True gynecomastia is a medical condition in which glandular breast tissue develops on the male chest, similar to female breast development. This is often accompanied by a look of puffiness around the nipples and fatty deposits that further contribute to a defined breast shape.
  • Pseudogynecomastia is the physical appearance of breasts, yet without the accompanying glandular tissue. An example of pseudogynecomastia would be the sagginess through the chest seen in men who are overweight, or excess skin left behind following rapid weight loss that forms a breast shape.

A combination of the two is also possible.

Dr. Kay’s surgical approach to male breast reduction will vary depending on the type of gynecomastia present. For true gynecomastia, he will surgically excise the glandular breast tissue along with removing fat cells and excess skin for firmer, smoother lines again. In pseudogynecomastia, Dr. Kay may be able to improve chest contours using male liposuction alone. If significant sagging in the skin is present, he removes any excess in order to enhance the natural contours of the chest.

Your Recovery & Results

  1. After your surgery, Dr. Kay will ask you to wear a compressive elastic bandage or support garment to help you stay comfortable during recovery as well as encourage your skin to conform to your trimmer new contours. Post-surgical drains may be used to prevent fluid buildup initially as well. Most men return to their daily routines in about a week, although exercise and heavy lifting should wait a few more weeks.
  2. Men who undergo male breast reduction should see an immediate change in their appearance that includes a firmer chest, more well-defined muscle tone and more masculine contours from shoulder to waistline, along with an increase in self-confidence. You can expect the results of your gynecomastia treatment to be long-lasting, as long as you continue maintaining a healthy weight and lifestyle.
